Guitar RST- Biography
My name is Nick Theriault, and I am a guitarist. I was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on August 3rd 1997, into a family consisting of both my parents, and my four siblings. Growing up, I did not have a major interest in music, although I always found the guitar an interesting instrument from watching my dad play. I was very shy, so I rarely participated in class songs and performances for parents in elementary school. After moving around a lot, my family finally settled in Ottawa, and we later moved to Kanata in 2005. As I approached my teenage years, I began to develop an interest in music, especially after I received my first MP3 player at the age of 9. I would often listen to music for hours on end, and sometimes sang by myself because I was too shy to sing in front of others, although I was never any good. I also got my first guitar, but was not able to learn any real songs, and would mostly just strum the open strings for fun and show my friends, at least until high school.
In 9th grade, after finding out about the guitar class offered at All Saints, I began to take an interest in becoming a guitarist. I asked my Dad to teach me a couple simple chords and songs, and I got the hang of it after a little practice. The very first song I learned on guitar was " Never Too Late" by Three Days Grace, my favourite band up until the lead singer left in 2012. Finally, that summer before the start of 10th Grade, I received my first real guitar, a black Simon and Patrick acoustic for my 15th birthday, which I still have today. I really took an interest, and learned as many songs as I could, progressing at an impressive rate, while being taught by my Dad, an accomplished guitarist. I eventually began playing guitar for church every week, which really advanced my playing skills.
I am currently in grade 12, with a job as a ski instructor, and still playing guitar at church, although not as often, because of work. I aspire to join a band in a few years just for fun, and maybe perform in bars and pubs. I received a Taylor guitar, which plays extremely well, for my 17th birthday, as well as my first ukulele for Christmas. I will continue to work hard to improve my playing, and wish to continue playing music for many years to come.
